Brazil vs Haiti Preview: Selecao Aim for First World Cup Victory
Five-time world champions Brazil National Football Team will look to secure their first win of the FIFA World Cup 2026 when they face Haiti National Football Team in a crucial Group C clash on Friday.
Brazil were far from their best in their opening match against Morocco, but a moment of brilliance from Vinicius Junior earned Carlo Ancelotti's side a valuable point. The draw leaves Brazil third in Group C, two points behind leaders Scotland National Football Team.
Although Brazil entered the tournament as one of the favorites to lift the trophy, their opening performance highlighted areas that require improvement. The Selecao have won a record five World Cups but have not lifted football's biggest prize since 2002 and have failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals since 2014.
With a final group-stage match against Scotland still to come, Brazil know that dropping points against Haiti could leave their qualification hopes hanging in the balance. However, history strongly favors the South American giants.
Brazil have won all three previous meetings between the two nations, scoring an incredible 17 goals in the process. Their most recent encounter came at the 2016 Copa America, where Brazil recorded a dominant 7-1 victory.
Haiti, meanwhile, showed determination and resilience in their tournament opener against Scotland despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat. A first-half strike from John McGinn proved decisive, but the Caribbean side produced several encouraging moments throughout the contest.
The Grenadiers are making only their second-ever World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 1974. Another defeat could see them eliminated if Morocco avoid defeat against Scotland, making this a must-win encounter for Sebastien Migne's men.
Team News
Brazil could make several changes to the side that drew with Morocco. Veteran defenders Danilo and Alex Sandro are pushing for starts, while Fabinho, Luiz Henrique and Matheus Cunha could also be included in the starting lineup.
Fitness concerns continue to surround Neymar, whose availability remains uncertain. However, Vinicius Junior and Raphinha are expected to retain their places in attack, while Gabriel Magalhaes should once again marshal the defense.
For Haiti, Josue Casimir could earn a starting role after an encouraging display off the bench against Scotland. Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor is expected to lead the attack, supported by Louicius Deedson.
Experienced goalkeeper Johny Placide is set to make his 84th international appearance and will likely have a busy evening against Brazil's star-studded attack.
Predicted Score
Brazil 3-0 Haiti
Brazil possess significantly greater quality and depth across the pitch. While Haiti showed plenty of fight against Scotland, the Selecao should have enough firepower to secure a comfortable victory and strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout rounds.
